With an empire that spanned so much of the globe, it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise that Great Britain’s collection of historical and cultural artifacts is vast. The works housed in the British Museum are indeed many and varied….Egypt, Greece, Rome, Asia, Africa, the Pacific, the Americas…most major portions of the world are represented here.
We arrived in London after lunchtime and planned to stop by and see what we could that afternoon/evening at the museum, and come back the day after to spend more time. I made the mistake of assuming that my wife and daughter wouldn’t mind a brief walk in some light rain as we made our way to the museum from the underground stop closest to it. Actually had it been light rain that would have been fine, but it turned heavier than forecast and I was in the doghouse by the time we arrived. Despite this, it’s hard not to have your mood pick up walking up to important artifacts like the Rosetta Stone.
It was hard to decide what areas to focus on during both visits and we didn’t try to see it all. I didn’t try to count how many photos we took. Narrowing down the pictures to upload for this post was equally difficult!
With that, I will let the artifacts do the talking and leave you with my favorites…
